What a week!

Did my normal rounds, Comedy Store, Laugh Factory, Improv and the Ice House. Just trying to stay busy. I hate it when I run into fake @ss people though. People who don’t give a sh*t about you or you they, but they pretend like they love you.

That is the worst part of being in Hollywood, all the negativity and bull sh*t. I used to be a nice guy before comedy. People have this perception that comics are fun people to be around, but it’s not that way at all. A lot of comedians are arrogant pr*cks that used to get picked on their entire childhood. Now they’re getting on stage by kissing up to the right person and think they’re the sh*t. There are lots of clicks (It’s who you know) in this business.

Latinos have it the worst of anybody. The industry assumes we’re all from Mexico and they don’t believe we are talented enough to perform in front of a mainstream audience. We get to do “Latino” night, a night they choose for us just so we don’t accuse them of discriminating. If you don’t believe me, go out to any comedy club on the weekend and count the number of Latinos in the show. Then count the number in the seats. Plenty! We’re the bastards of this business and we’re not taken seriously. Even after we get a Latino Night show, they still put Non-Latino comedians in the line-up, thus taking that spot away from a Latino comic. They’ll even put up someone who just happens to pop-in, the privelaged. Do you think they do the same when a Latino pops-in for a mainstream show? You’re right… NEGATIVE!

The point is, we are NATURALLY funny and talk about things that are painful memories. That is why the majority of Black and Latino comedics are typically the funniest. Fabricated humor is not funny, but things we can relate to as individuals are very funny. They only want us when we’re famous, but don’t give us an opportunity to become famous on THEIR stage. How insulting is that? It’s not every club, but I’d say the majority.

But hey, here we are, continuing in this business. The tough business. And because we’re willing to fight over crumbs, it will continue to be that way. Too bad!
